Worth the Detour: Visiting Horseshoe Bend in Page, Arizona

During my journey home, I decided to take a detour to visit the famous Horseshoe Bend in Page, Arizona. Although it was a bit out of my way, this spontaneous side trip turned out to be one of the most rewarding decisions of my travels. The view at sunset was simply breathtaking—one of the most picturesque I have ever seen.

The Journey to Horseshoe Bend

Horseshoe Bend is located just a short drive from Page, Arizona, and is easily accessible from major highways. Horseshoe Bend is located East of the city of Saint George, Utah, but it is in Arizona. It was an easy trip from St. George, and afterward, I continued the road trip up to Moab, Utah.

As I pulled into the large parking lot, I was pleased to see that the pathway to the viewpoint was flat and well-maintained, making it suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. This accessibility ensures that everyone can enjoy the stunning vistas without much difficulty.

A Walk to Remember: Steep Cliff Edges and Unforgettable Views

The walk to Horseshoe Bend is short, approximately 0.75 miles each way, on a flat, sandy path. However, there is no shade coverage along the route, so be sure to wear sunscreen and bring plenty of water to stay hydrated.

As you approach the edge, the anticipation builds, and the view that unfolds is truly awe-inspiring.

The Majestic View of Horseshoe Bend

Horseshoe Bend is a horseshoe-shaped meander of the Colorado River, and the sight of it from the viewpoint is nothing short of spectacular.

The vibrant colors of the rock formations contrasted with the deep blue of the river create a picture-perfect scene, especially at sunset when the sky is painted with hues of orange and pink.

It’s a photographer’s dream, but remember to be polite and mindful of others trying to capture their perfect shot.

Safety First: Be Prepared For Desert Extremes

While the views are mesmerizing, getting near the edge is not for the faint of heart. There are no railings or barriers, so exercise caution and prioritize your safety. The sheer drop can be intimidating, but staying back a bit still offers incredible views and photo opportunities.

If visiting in the summer, wear sunscreen, carry water, and be prepared for extreme heat because there is not shelter or shade.

Culinary Delight at Big John’s Texas BBQ

After soaking in the beauty of Horseshoe Bend, I headed to Big John’s Texas BBQ in Page for a much-needed meal. The aroma of smoked meat greeted me as I arrived, and the food did not disappoint. The BBQ was some of the best I’ve ever had—tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. It was the perfect way to end an unforgettable day.

Visiting Horseshoe Bend was an experience I’ll never forget. The detour was well worth it for the stunning sunset views and the incredible natural beauty of the area.
